Overview

Oil Sampling is the most important part of Oil Analysis Program. Failure to obtain a representative good sample, oil analysis results will not be beneficial . Two goals when getting a represntative good oil sample .

    • Maximize data density or obtain the best representative sample.

    •         Oil sample should be taken to obtain most informaton from lubrication.

    • Minimize data disturbance or Minimize the least Contaminated oil sample .

    •         It is very important to make sure that the oil sample does not contaminated during the sampling process.

To ensure maximize data density and minimize data disturbance in oil sampling ,consider the following factors:-

    • Sampling Location
    • Sampling Materials (Tools, devices )
    • Sampling Procedure
    • Sample Frequency

    Sampling Location

Not all locations in machine lube system will provide the same data. Some are good data and some are bad data. If improper location, some may be negative error result and some may be positive error. Primary Tips for oil sampling:-

    • Sampling where will be downstream of lubrication
    • Sampling where will be live zone and turbulence flow
    • Sampling when machine is operating

Sampling Materials (Tools, devices and other hardware)

Good procedure to obtain a good representative sample, effective sampling tools, device and other hardware have to be in consideration.

    • Sampling Ports ,valves and port adapters
    • Fluid Sampling Pump
    • Sampling Bottle , Fill-in Form

    Sampling Procedure

Once good sampling location and hardware are applied, there will be questions on "how to take good sample and everytime do it the same way ." Create specific written for each sampling location. This ensures that each sample is extracted in a consistent manner.

    Sample Frequency /Interval

The objective of Oil Analysis Program is to find bad news and Good Sampling Method is to obtain maximize data density.

Thus, in order to achieve both aspects, Sampling Frequency have to be considered seriously. Scheduled Sample Frequency /Interval is also dependent upon many variables, such as criticality of machine, operating condition, machine age, oil age, and severe environment (dust, moisture, contaminants) etc.
